You know that overwhelming, giddy feeling you get when something so exciting and completely unexpected happens? Have you ever been so good-shocked that your jaw literally drops to the extent your smile will allow it? You can't quite catch a full breath?
This is how I felt when I got the call asking me to cover Copenhagen's British Embassy reception of Prince Charles and Camilla's Diamond Jubilee visit to Denmark's capital. Could I? Would I? Heck, YES!
And I did. I mustered up my years of experience as an event and family portrait photographer and showed up at the Ambassador's castle-like home. And it was fun, and exciting and nerve-wracking and empowering and leg-shake worthy all at once. A far cry from baby photography, with curtsies, 'Your Royal Highnesses' and handshakes all around. Talk about a brush with shmarminess!
It was made even better by the attendance of the event by a handful of top Danish film personalities from Forbrydelsen - the original Danish title of the 'can't-put-it-down' crime-drama t.v. series The Killing; Søren Sveistrup (Creator/Writer), Piv Bernth (Executive Director), Sofie Gråbøl (Lead Actor), Pilou Asbæk and Mikael Birkkjær (Actors). If you haven't watched this series, WATCH IT NOW. (The Danish version).
Now, this happened (obviously, if you follow British royal affairs), in 2012. I was required to keep the images private in the immediate aftermath of the event, but 4 years later I'm dragging them out of the vault to share with all and brag wildly about how I photographed one of the most famous couples in the world.
